Trump Tariff Announcement
The Reciprocal Tariff Executive Order of April 2, 2025 sets a baseline tariff of 10% for any merchandise imported into the US. The tariff is effective for any shipment departing April 5th or later.
Higher tariffs for goods from certain countries will apply, such as 20% from EU countries, 32% from Taiwan, 54% from China, 46% from Vietnam, and 26% from India. These higher, country specific tariff rates will apply to shipments departing after April 9th. The higher rates are said to include the 10% baseline rate, but clarification from the administration is needed. The list is included here: https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Annex-I.pdf
There are few exceptions to the reciprocal tariffs, including items considered critical to national security and citizen health.
Please see Annex II, which covers specific items from most countries that may be excluded: https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Annex-II.pdf
Clarification in the form of an as yet issued “Annex III” is awaited.
These tariffs are in addition to the original China origin tariffs but do not apply to imports subject to special tariff rates including steel, aluminum, autos, and auto parts under Section 232.
